UNLV: Interesting upcoming seminars from ICGR

The University of Nevada in Las Vegas is offering educational courses on relevant subjects for gaming professionals, such as iGaming regulation and operation, sports betting, casino internal controls, tribal gaming business, global trends in AML, and responsible gaming, among others.

The International Center for Gaming Regulation is the world’s only organization dedicated to the study of regulations and their development for the land-based and online casino gaming industries.

Following its usual academic content agenda, the UNLV (United States), through its International Center for Gaming Regulation (ICGR), announced a series of valuable virtual seminars that it will develop on its platform in the months of January, February and March 2022.

These popular executive education courses are designed to give participants a broad and deep formation in different, key aspects of the gaming industry. Delivered by qualified speakers, the seminars program for the first trimester of this year is detailed next.

JANUARY 2022

 1) Understanding iGaming: Regulations, Operations & Marketplace

Modality and date: virtual course. January 12-13th, 2022, 8 am to 11:30 am

Description: The iGaming ecosystem presents many opportunities and challenges. This two-day seminar program will position operators and regulators to better understand iGaming operations, regulatory guidelines, and the marketplace in which iGaming exists. Led by experts in the iGaming field, attendees of this program will leave with both strategic understanding as well as applicable practices for operating in (or regulating) the iGaming environment.

2) Principles of Sports Wagering: Policy & Operations

Modality and date: virtual course. January 19-20th, 2022, 8 am to 12 pm

Description: As gaming jurisdictions prepare for an expansion of sports wagering after the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling on PASPA, now is the time to gain an in-depth understanding of how regulated sports betting works. The ICGR provides this 2-day intensive seminar on the regulation of sports betting. A certificate of completion from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas will be awarded and delivered electronically at the end of the program.

FEBRUARY 2022

3) Casino & Gaming Internal Controls

Modality and date: virtual course. February 8th, 2022, 8 am to 12:30 pm

Description: The ICGR routinely explores the mechanics and process of audits and accounting in the international gaming industry. This one-time seminar will focus on Casino and Gaming Internal Controls. The seminar is part of the ICGR’s ongoing Financial Series of executive education. It is ideal for regulators, but will support the education and knowledge base of professionals seeking facts and information about control systems within any highly regulated industry.

4) Maximizing the Value of Tribal Gaming Enterprises

Modality and date: virtual/in-person course. February 17th, 2022, 8 am to 12 pm

Details: This program takes place over four Thursdays in February and March 2022:

Session #1: Thursday, February 17th, 2022 at 8 am – 12 pm (Pacific) on Zoom

Session #2: Thursday, March 3rd, 2022 at 8 am – 12 pm (Pacific) on Zoom

Session #3: Thursday, March 17th, 2022 at 8 am – 12 pm (Pacific) on Zoom

Session #4: Thursday, March 31st, 2022 at 8 am – 12 pm (Pacific) on Zoom & In-Person

Description: This is a 4-part program from UNLV’s ICGR. Through a series of expert-led sessions, this program offers attendees the opportunity to dive deep into the complexities of tribal gaming operations, assess financial capabilities and create a strategy for the future. This program will begin on February 17th and consists of three virtual sessions with a final hybrid session with both Zoom and in-person attendance options on March 31st 2022.

5) Global Trends in AML Regulation, Enforcement, and Illegal Gambling

Modality and date: virtual course. March 1st, 2022, 10 am to 12 pm

Description: Learn the latest global trends in combating money laundering and other financial crimes in gambling. This intensive seminar provides information and knowledge on government actions and interventions related to the casino and gambling sector, and the associated recommendations and learning points. This course is ideal for professionals in highly regulated industries, including casino management, compliance personnel, risk management, HR or finance directors, surveillance/security team members and gaming industry advisors.

6) Ethics & Responsible Gaming: 3-Part Seminar Series

Modality and date: virtual/in-person course. March 16th, 2022, 1 pm to 3 pm

Details: This program takes place over three Wednesdays in March 2022:

Session #1: Responsible Gaming and Existing Policy Approaches – March 16th, 2022 at 1 pm – 3 pm PST

Session #2: Ethics and Culture in Responsible Gaming – March 23rd, 2022 at 1 pm – 3 pm PST

Session #3: Public Components of Responsible Gaming – March 30th, 2022 at 1 pm – 3 pm PST

Description: This three-part seminar will discuss the framework of responsible gaming and give attendees the tools needed to successfully develop, evaluate and sustain a responsible gaming program. This program can be purchased as a series or as individual seminars. The program is designed for operators, regulators, legislative bodies, casino managers, compliance and audit teams, and human resource professionals in the gaming industry, but it can be applied to any highly regulated field.

Educational partners: Alan Feldman (Distinguished Fellow in Responsible Gaming, International Gaming Institute), and Jennifer Shatley (President of the Nevada Council on Problem Gambling, she is an insightful and experienced responsible gaming executive with a 23 year career background involving extensive leadership progressing responsible gaming policy)
