Prominent market research company Newzoo has presented its latest PC & Console Gaming Report 2025. This document reveals global consumer spending on PC and console gaming reached USD 80.2 billion in 2024 and is expected to grow steadily over the next three years, scaling to USD 85.2 billion in 2025 and USD 92.7 billion by 2027.
The main driver of this expansion will be the console segment, which already generated USD 42.8 billion in 2024 and is projected to experience a 7% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) through 2027. PC gaming, meanwhile, maintains stable revenues around USD 37.3 billion, sustained primarily by free-to-play titles.
PLAYTIME HITS RECORD LEVELS
One of the strongest indicators of the market’s health is the sustained progress in playtime hours. In 2024, global playtime grew by 6% compared to the previous year, with Q4 setting a new record for the highest quarterly playtime ever recorded.
The report emphasizes that user engagement is becoming increasingly concentrated around leading franchises, such as Fortnite, Call of Duty, and GTA V, but also shows opportunities for new titles to capture audiences. In fact, new releases represented 12% of total playtime during 2024, a clear sign that players are open to exploring fresh content.
MONETIZATION TRENDS
In terms of revenue models, free-to-play games continue to dominate PC gaming, accounting for 58% of total PC revenues (USD 24 billion), while premium titles maintain a solid 28% share.
On consoles, premium games generated 46% of total revenue in 2024 (USD 19.9 billion), with free-to-play titles increasing their share to 32%. Subscriptions, meanwhile, gained relevance across both platforms, with revenues rising 14.1% year-on-year.
OPPORTUNITIES FOR LATAM
Emerging markets are playing an increasingly important role in industry’s global expansion. With a growing number of gamers, high mobile penetration, and an appetite for localized content, countries such as Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, and Peru present clear opportunities for publishers and operators.
Localized payment methods, adapted marketing strategies, and regional partnerships are expected to be key factors for success in these markets over the next few years.
A PROMISING FUTURE
Looking ahead, the market is preparing for a new phase of development driven by blockbuster releases and next-generation hardware.
The launch of Grand Theft Auto VI, one of the most anticipated games in history, alongside the release of Nintendo Switch 2, scheduled for June 2025, is expected to boost console revenues and user engagement globally.
In addition, gaming trends such as cross-platform play, personalized gaming experiences, and nostalgia-driven content will continue to shape the industry’s landscape. The PC and console gaming segment faces a highly competitive environment, but also a promising future full of opportunities.
With revenues projected to exceed USD 92 billion by 2027, and engagement levels at record highs, the sector remains one of the most dynamic and innovative in the global entertainment ecosystem. Emerging markets, technological innovation, and the ability to create memorable gaming experiences will be the key drivers of success in the years to come.
