How significant is the opening of Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Ottawa for Hard Rock’s strategy and presence in Canada?
The opening of Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Ottawa is a major step forward in Hard Rock’s global strategy and a defining moment for our presence in Canada. This is the country’s first fully integrated Hard Rock resort, combining hotel, casino, dining, entertainment, and retail in one immersive destination. It allows us to bring the full strength of the brand to life in our nation’s capital city and introduces Canadians to the complete Hard Rock experience in a way that hasn’t been done before in Canada. Our facility is not only a bold CAD 350 million (USD 257.8 million) investment in the Ottawa market, employing more than 1,100 team members, but we are also creating impact through tourism, hospitality, and community engagement. Music is infused in everything we do at Hard Rock, from our iconic memorabilia collection to our Hard Rock Live venue and Unity by Hard Rock loyalty program. Guest touchpoints are designed to celebrate music, culture, and connection. Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Ottawa isn’t just a new resort. It positions Hard Rock as a hospitality and entertainment leader in one of the country’s most dynamic and diverse markets.
The new casino features 1,500 slot machines and up to 40 live-action table games. How does this gaming offering position the property within the Canadian and North American casino landscape?
Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Ottawa introduces a new level of scale and sophistication to the gaming market in Canada. We opened the new facility on July 3rd, 2025, including the 150-room hotel, Hard Rock Live entertainment venue, Hard Rock Cafe, Council Oak Seafood & Steakhouse, Rock Shop and more! Phase 2 is set to open in mid-December 2025. When fully completed, we’ll offer 1,500 slots and up to 40 live-action tables, 10 restaurants and bars, making it one of the most expansive and diverse gaming floors in the region. Our slot product boasts some of the newest themes and we pride ourselves on being ‘first to market’ in Canada whenever possible. We are attracting many guests from within Ontario and our neighboring province of Quebec, as well as across the country and beyond our borders. Hard Rock is an entertainment brand first. In every aspect of the guest experience, they feel the Hard Rock swagger influence. When we combine that with gaming and premium hospitality, the experience is legendary! We’ve created a space that appeals to seasoned players, casual guests, and first-time visitors. Guests are enjoying our expansive F&B offerings, exclusive VIP amenities through Unity by Hard Rock, and our high-energy environment, all reflecting the global Hard Rock brand standard. For the first time, our guests don’t have to leave Canada to experience it. We operate with the highest standards of integrity and accountability. Our team is fully aligned with the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) and the Ontario Lottery & Gaming Corporation (OLG) requirements and proudly offer gaming and entertainment experiences that are both exciting and responsible.
In what ways does the integration of the casino with hotel, entertainment, and dining experiences enhance the overall appeal of the destination?
Integration is what transforms Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Ottawa from a great casino into a true destination. I liken it to a ‘choose your own adventure’ stay. Every experience is connected, and every part of the property is designed to maintain energy. Guests can arrive for dinner and a show or a gaming only experience. Some have booked a suite and ordered room service to simply ‘get away from it all’. This kind of seamless offering appeals to a wider audience, from entertainment seekers and food lovers to business travelers and weekend adventurers. Whether you’re coming to play, stay, eat, or perform, there’s a rhythm to how the spaces work together that creates momentum. It’s not just one thing to do; it’s a full playlist. That level of variety and immersion is rare in Canada. It puts Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Ottawa on the map as a top-tier tourism and entertainment destination and with our proximity to the Ottawa International Airport, it appeals to the masses across North America.
From a business perspective, what are your expectations regarding the economic and tourism impact of the new casino in the Ottawa region?
We expect Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Ottawa to be a significant driver of both economic activity and tourism growth for the region. This project represents a CAD 350 million investment and has already created over 1,100 local jobs. We are already attracting world class events not seen in Ottawa before. On September 20th, we hosted a World Title Unification Boxing fight card that was aired on national television and also picked up heavily in Argentina. Our hotel was full of guests who flew in from all over to catch the excitement. We’re also drawing new visitors to Ottawa. With our integrated resort model, we’re not just targeting gamers, but also attracting concertgoers, culinary explorers, event planners, and international guests who now see Ottawa as a destination with more to offer. Our proximity to the airport and downtown gives us an edge in capturing both regional and out-of-market traffic. When Hard Rock positions itself in a city, they work to become part of the fabric of the host community. Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Ottawa will continue this long-standing tradition of community investment through partnerships, sponsorships, and charitable initiatives, leveraging the global Hard Rock Heals philanthropic platform. In addition, annually, the City of Ottawa receives over CAD 6.5 million in payments from our casino gaming revenues, which contributes significantly to local programs and services.
Thinking about a future strategy, how does Hard Rock Ottawa plan to innovate or differentiate itself in an increasingly competitive gaming market?
Hard Rock has never been about blending in. Our focus is on delivering a consistently fresh and elevated experience across every part of the property. That means continued investment in entertainment programming, seasonal food and beverage activations, and personalized guest service driven by our Unity loyalty program. What truly sets us apart is our culture. We aren’t a casino with a hotel attached. We’re a lifestyle resort powered by music, energy and authenticity. We’re not just competing with other casinos. We’re competing for attention in a world full of options. Our plan is to keep giving people reasons to choose Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Ottawa.
