Now that Jamaica has officially entered the casino gaming market, with Princess Grand Jamaica leading the way, how does it feel to be part of such a historic milestone for the country’s tourism and entertainment industries?
It’s an incredible honor to be at the forefront of this new chapter in Jamaica’s tourism and entertainment landscape. As the first resort to be granted a casino license under the Approved Integrated Resort Development (AIRD) framework, Princess Grand Jamaica is proud to set the standard for what’s possible. This milestone represents not just an expansion of our offering, but also a bold statement about Jamaica’s readiness to compete on a global scale in the integrated resort space. We’re excited to contribute to a future where Jamaica is known for its natural beauty and culture, and for world-class entertainment experiences.
What were some of the key tasks your team encountered throughout the process, especially considering the complex requirements associated with the AIRD status?
Navigating the AIRD process was both rigorous and rewarding. Meeting the criteria for large-scale development, infrastructure investment, and diversified amenities required precise coordination across many departments, and close collaboration with regulatory bodies. One of the biggest challenges was ensuring that every element of the resort from our hotel rooms to the entertainment offerings met not only international standards but also aligned with local development goals. We’re proud that we didn’t just meet the bar; we raised it.
How does the casino experience complement the overall guest offering at Princess Grand Jamaica, and what strategies are in place to attract both local and international visitors?
The casino is designed to be a seamless extension of the luxury and excitement guests already expect from Princess Grand Jamaica. Whether it’s our fine dining, exceptional service, or vibrant entertainment, the casino adds a new dimension of sophistication and thrill to the experience. For our international guests, it enhances the appeal of Jamaica as a comprehensive vacation destination. For local visitors, we’ve focused on responsible access and tailored promotions. Our strategy blends global best practices in gaming with authentic Jamaican hospitality, creating an environment where everyone feels welcome, safe, and entertained.
Given the resort’s scale and potential for job creation, what long-term economic and social benefits do you envision for the Hanover region and for Jamaica more broadly?
This project is a major investment in infrastructure and in people. We’ve already created hundreds of jobs during the construction phase and will employ over 2,000 individuals at full operation. Beyond employment, we’re focused on training, career development, and community upliftment. We expect the resort to stimulate growth in surrounding businesses, from transportation to agriculture, creating a ripple effect of opportunity. For Hanover specifically, this marks a shift towards becoming a key player in Jamaica’s tourism economy. Nationally, it’s a model for sustainable, high-impact investment.
After the initial launch, how do you see casino gaming evolving in Jamaica, and what role will the new resort play in driving innovation and shaping this emerging market?
Casino gaming in Jamaica is still in its infancy, but the potential is immense. As the first to enter this space, we see ourselves not just as participants, but as leaders. We’re committed to setting benchmarks in compliance, customer experience, and innovations from leveraging cutting-edge gaming technologies to implementing responsible gaming programs. Over time, we anticipate that the industry will mature into a vibrant ecosystem, with Princess Grand Jamaica serving as a hub of excellence and a training ground for the next generation of hospitality and gaming professionals.
