From free spins to VIP packages: How casinos cash in on Black Friday

As people prepare for the holiday season, they’re often looking for entertainment or novel experiences to share with friends and family. In a competitive sector, Black Friday has proven to be more than a sales tool. It’s a strategic moment for casinos to innovate, differentiate, and solidify relationships with their customer base.

Whether presenting discounted hotel stays at a Las Vegas resort or offering generous free-play bonuses for online gaming platforms, the industry has embraced this commercial holiday with open arms.

The unofficial kickoff to the holiday shopping season is no longer just about scoring discounts on TVs, laptops, or the latest fashion trends. Over the years, Black Friday, a consumer phenomenon, has expanded into unexpected territories, including the gambling world. Both land-based and online casinos are capitalizing on the day’s spirit of deal-hunting by offering exclusive promotions tailored to entice seasoned players and curious newcomers alike.

For the gambling industry, Black Friday provides a unique opportunity to engage audiences who may not typically visit a casino or log onto a betting site. With consumers primed to seek out deals, casinos strategically position themselves as part of the broader shopping experience. The lure isn’t just about saving money but amplifying the thrill. In this sense, deposit bonuses, free spins, or even exclusive VIP packages are dangled as incentives, turning a one-day shopping frenzy into an extended opportunity for excitement and potential wins.

The timing is perfect. As people prepare for the holiday season, they’re often looking for entertainment or novel experiences to share with friends and family. Casinos, known for their immersive environments, leverage this by creating special Black Friday proposals that appeal to different demographics. Whether presenting discounted hotel stays at a Las Vegas resort or offering generous free-play bonuses for online gaming platforms, the industry has embraced this commercial holiday with open arms.

BLACK FRIDAY PROMOTIONS IN LAND-BASED CASINOS

Many land-based casinos use Black Friday as a springboard to attract foot traffic and fill their gaming floors with enthusiastic players. For example, The Venetian Resort in Las Vegas often combines discounted hotel stays with promotional gaming packages. This year, they offer free credits for slot machines, ranging from 50 to 200 dollars, based on the length of the stay, along with exclusive dining discounts for loyalty club members.

On the East Coast, Foxwoods Resort Casino in Connecticut has also jumped on the Black Friday bandwagon. Known for its sprawling complex and loyal clientele, Foxwoods presents ‘Holiday Gift’ promotions tied to Black Friday. Guests who visited during this period in past years could enter raffles to win luxury goods such as designer handbags, electronics, and even a new car, turning every spin of the slot machine into a potential double win.

Smaller boutique casinos also play their part. In Europe, Casino de Monte-Carlo in Monaco has curated Black Friday experiences, including exclusive high-roller packages. These deals combine premium gaming access with luxurious amenities like private dining, chauffeur services, and VIP tournament entries, showcasing how Black Friday can cater to a more upscale audience.

In addition to gaming offers, land-based casinos have started integrating other entertainment elements into their Black Friday promotions. At Resorts World Las Vegas, for example, guests can enjoy bundled packages that combine room discounts with tickets to exclusive shows, spa treatments, and even Black Friday-themed dining menus. These packages are designed to create a holistic entertainment experience, blending gambling with other luxury services to attract a wider audience.

Some casinos even extend their Black Friday offers to Cyber Monday, creating a long weekend of deals. MGM Grand Detroit, for instance, has run extended promotions where players can earn bonus points on loyalty cards throughout the weekend, which can be redeemed for complimentary stays, meals, or gaming credits. These extended deals ensure that the momentum of Black Friday doesn’t fade after the first 24 hours, keeping players engaged for longer and maximizing the casino’s revenue.

ONLINE CASINOS: BLACK FRIDAY IN THE DIGITAL REALM

For online casinos, Black Friday represents an even greater opportunity to reel in players from across the globe. Operators such as BetMGM, LeoVegas, and 888Casino have been known to roll out a slew of attractive promotions. This year, BetMGM delivered a ‘Double Deposit Bonus’ where new players could receive up to 1,000 dollars in bonus funds on their initial deposit during the Black Friday weekend. This was paired with 100 free spins on popular slot games.

In Europe, platforms like Unibet used Black Friday to introduce limited-time tournaments with boosted prize pools. For example, their ‘Black Friday Slot Races’ featured an extra 50,000 euros added to the usual prize pool, with top players earning cash prizes or luxury items like iPads and gift vouchers.

Meanwhile, crypto-friendly platforms like Stake took advantage of the occasion by offering enhanced cashback rates and deposit bonuses, appealing to the growing audience of cryptocurrency users. These promotions often included leaderboards for specific games, encouraging friendly competition among players and increasing engagement.

Other online casinos, like Casumo, go the extra mile by gamifying their Black Friday promotions. For instance, they’ve introduced ‘Black Friday Treasure Hunts,’ where players complete tasks such as playing certain games or reaching milestones to unlock rewards. This approach enhances player engagement and keeps them actively exploring different sections of the site, leading to a better overall user experience.

Online platforms are also increasingly leveraging social media and email campaigns to drive Black Friday participation. Operators like PartyCasino use targeted ads and personalized emails to offer players exclusive time-sensitive promotions, such as one-hour ‘Flash Sales’ on deposit bonuses or free spins. These micro-campaigns create a sense of urgency, encouraging players to take immediate action and boosting customer retention in the process.

BUILDING LONG-TERM LOYALTY

Generally speaking, Black Friday is an opportunity to build lasting relationships with customers. Many operators use the day as a launching pad for loyalty programs. For instance, Caesars Entertainment integrates its Black Friday promotions into its Caesars Rewards program, allowing players to earn extra tier points during the holiday weekend. These points can be redeemed for free play, discounted hotel stays, or exclusive experiences.

Similarly, online casinos like PlayOJO take a more personalized approach. Their Black Friday deals often include customized offers based on a player’s gaming history, such as tailored bonuses for favorite games or free spins on newly launched slots. This individualized strategy not only enhances customer satisfaction, but also encourages repeat visits well beyond the Black Friday period.

Additionally, some casinos use Black Friday as an opportunity to promote new features or services, creating lasting impressions with their audience. For example, Hard Rock Casino has leveraged Black Friday in the past to introduce exclusive loyalty tiers for frequent players, offering them benefits such as early access to events, priority seating at restaurants, and exclusive gaming lounge access. This tactic rewards regular customers and encourages casual players to aspire to higher-tier memberships, building long-term engagement.

Casinos also focus on integrating community-building elements into their promotions. Online platforms like Mr. Green have used Black Friday to launch social tournaments where players can compete against each other for leaderboard rewards. By fostering a sense of camaraderie and competition, these initiatives create deeper emotional connections with players, making them more likely to stay loyal to the brand in the long run.

In a competitive industry, Black Friday has proven to be more than a sales tool. It’s a strategic moment for casinos to innovate, differentiate, and solidify relationships with their customer base. By offering not just discounts but enhanced experiences and loyalty-building opportunities, casinos ensure that the buzz around Black Friday extends far beyond a single day, creating lasting value for both operators and players.
