Gaming revenue in Nevada’s casinos keeps on growing with USD 1.3 billion for May 2022

According to the Nevada Gaming Control Board, overall gaming win was +13% in relation to April 2022, +5.7% versus May 2021 and 32.4% bigger than May 2019. It was the 15th straight month of at least USD 1 billion in winnings.

For Clark County, revenue was the highest ever for the month of May and the fourth-highest single-month gaming revenue total of all time.

In a recent release, the Gaming Control Board of Nevada (NGCB), United States, launched its monthly report for May 2022. Numbers were very positive, with commercial casinos’ revenue of USD 1.3 billion, up 5.71% from the May 2021 collection of USD 1.229 billion.

Clark County casinos raked in more than USD 1.13 billion during May (almost 87% of the state’s total), the report said, with Strip properties accounting for more than USD 731.5 million, the market’s highest-ever total for May. That was a jump of 7.13% from May 2021 for the county and 11.62% for Strip casinos. Downtown casinos made USD 78.8 million in May, up 5.3% from nearly USD 75 million for May 2021. Revenue of gambling in Washoe County, Reno and South Lake Tahoe was lower than the one of May 2021.

For the first five months of 2022, statewide gaming revenue is elevated more than 22.6% over 2021, which saw a single-year record of USD 13.4 billion, informed The Nevada Independent. Strip gaming revenue is up 40.2% over 2021, which ended with a record USD 7 billion in gaming revenue. For the fiscal year (July 1st, 2021 through May 31st, 2022), gaming win has increased 40.99%, a climb to more than USD 13.3 billion from nearly USD 9.5 billion.

DISPARITY IN VERTICALS

In terms of casino games, there were double-digit revenue increases from baccarat (+24%) and table games (+10.4%). Nevada’s sportsbooks collected USD 27 million in revenue, a dip of less than 1% compared to May 2021. Sportsbooks took in USD 561.6 million in wagers, an increase of 15.4% from last May. Mobile sports wagers continued to dominate the market. Sportsbooks took in USD 397.6 million on bets placed through mobile apps in May, which accounted for 70.8% of wagers.

INTENSE TOURISM ACTIVITY

Regarding visitors, there were more than 3.4 million in May, a 7% less than pre-pandemic May 2019, but a 19.8% increase from almost 2.9 million visitors a year ago. Room occupancy expanded to 82.6% (11.7% points ahead of May 2021). This year’s total included more than 3,600 rooms that were added in June 2021 with the opening of Resorts World Las Vegas. Weekend room occupancy during May was 91.9%, compared to 87.8% in May 2021. The average room rate on the Strip was almost USD 176 during May, 38.7% higher than last May, when average daily room rates were USD 126.69.

About Las Vegas’ Harry Reid International Airport, it recorded its third-busiest month in May, with 4.57 million passengers. For the first five months of 2022, Reid Airport has seen almost 19.6 million passengers, a +61.6% over the first five months of 2021. Passenger volume in May was 30% higher than the 3.5 million passengers in May 2021. International passenger volume topped 240,199 travelers, the airport’s largest figure in 26 months. Year-to-date, international airline passenger volume is at 788,890 travelers, a 515.2% upsurge from the same five months of 2021.
