The National Indian Gaming Commission (NIGC) proudly communicated that its Vice Chair Jeannie Hovland obtained the Woman Warrior Award, presented by the Tribal Gaming Protection Network’s Women in Tribal Gaming Symposium. This distinguished honor praises a leader in tribal gaming who has demonstrated exceptional professionalism, resilience, and dedication to advancing the industry and uplifting Native communities.
Hovland accepted the award during a special presentation at the Women in Tribal Gaming Luncheon in Oklahoma City. “I am deeply honored to receive the Woman Warrior Award and to be amongst so many visionary women who are making lasting impacts across their communities and in the tribal gaming industry. This is a powerful reminder of the strength of so many women who lead, advocate and inspire every day,” she expressed.
On its 8th edition, the Women in Tribal Gaming Symposium consisted of informative panel discussions, interactive breakout sessions, and stimulating networking events, delivered on the TGPN’s commitment to support and encourage professional development of people working in tribal gaming. Highlights of this year’s Symposium included the Keynote Address and presentation of the Woman Warrior Award.
Through the event, the idea was to encourage all women involved in tribal gaming to share the goal of promoting diversity within the sector. The main concept is to celebrate women and their essential contributions and leadership within the sector. Representing various tribes, businesses, and gaming operations, with over 300 professionals, the Women in Tribal Gaming Symposium was an incredible experience.
An enrolled member of the Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribe of South Dakota, Hovland devoted her career to serving Indian Country. At NIGC, she continues to champion tribal sovereignty while elevating opportunities for women and Native communities across the country.
The Tribal Gaming Protection Network is a non-profit organization founded to provide regulatory outreach, services, and education for the Tribal Gaming industry. Its goal is to protect Tribal Entities by strengthening relationships and providing knowledge to those working in the sector.
